Job Brief

The Disaster Response Director plays a critical role in planning and directing disaster response and crisis management activities. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in emergency management, capable of developing disaster preparedness training and preparing comprehensive emergency plans for various scenarios, including natural disasters, wartime situations, and technological hazards. Ideal candidates will possess strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure community safety and resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement disaster response plans and procedures for diverse emergency scenarios, including natural disasters, technological incidents, and man-made crises.
  • Lead and coordinate crisis management teams during disaster response operations to ensure effective response and recovery.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and improve existing emergency management plans.
  • Provide training and workshops on disaster preparedness, response strategies, and recovery processes to staff and community members.
  • Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as non-profit organizations, to enhance disaster response capabilities.
  • Oversee the development of educational materials and resources related to disaster preparedness and response.
  • Monitor and evaluate disaster response initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Manage budgets and resources allocated for disaster response and recovery efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in disaster response, emergency management, or a related field.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and coordinate with various stakeholders.
  • Certification in emergency management (e.g., Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Associate Emergency Manager (AEM)) is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, with the ability to assess situations and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in emergency management software and tools, as well as standard office software.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local emergency management policies and regulations.
