Job Brief

As a Decontamination Worker, you will play a crucial role in identifying, removing, packaging, transporting, and disposing of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, waste oil, fuel, transmission fluid, radioactive materials, and contaminated soil. The ideal candidate will possess specialized training and certification in hazardous materials handling and confined space entry, ensuring safety and compliance with industry regulations. Strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to operate earth-moving equipment or trucks are essential for success in this dynamic role.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess hazardous materials on-site, ensuring proper handling and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Perform decontamination procedures for hazardous waste, including asbestos and lead-based materials.
  • Package and label hazardous materials for transportation in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Transport hazardous materials to designated disposal facilities using appropriate vehicles and equipment.
  • Operate earth-moving equipment and trucks safely and efficiently during decontamination operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of hazardous materials handling and disposal activities for compliance auditing.
  • Participate in ongoing training and stay updated on industry best practices and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure a safe and effective work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in environmental science or hazardous materials handling preferred.
  • Certification in hazardous materials handling, confined space entry, or equivalent training required.
  • Proven experience in decontamination, remediation, or related fields.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and trucks as needed for transportation and removal of materials.
  • Strong physical stamina and capability to lift heavy objects safely.
  • Excellent attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
