Job Brief
We are seeking a skilled Cytotechnologist to perform complex medical laboratory tests essential for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in cytology and pathology, demonstrating proficiency in analyzing cellular samples and identifying abnormalities. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a laboratory setting. Training and supervision of junior staff may be part of this position.
Responsibilities
- Perform cytological examinations of various specimen types, including Pap smears and fine needle aspirations.
- Analyze and interpret cytological findings to identify abnormal cells and potential malignancies.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and recommend further testing.
- Ensure quality control and quality assurance measures are implemented and maintained within the laboratory.
- Train and supervise junior cytotechnologists and laboratory staff on laboratory protocols and procedures.
- Stay updated with advancements in cytotechnology and participate in continuing education programs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Current certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Strong knowledge of cytological techniques, laboratory safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in laboratory information systems and computer software used for data entry and analysis.
- Effective communication skills for collaboration with medical professionals and training of staff.
