Job Brief

As a Correction Officer, you will uphold safety and security within penal or rehabilitative institutions by guarding inmates according to established regulations and procedures. This role requires a dedicated individual with experience in law enforcement or corrections, showcasing strong observational skills, effective communication abilities, and a commitment to maintaining order and discipline. You will be responsible for overseeing inmates both in facilities and during transit between various locations, ensuring compliance with institutional policies to promote a secure environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor inmate behavior and report any suspicious or disruptive activities to ensure a safe environment.
  • Enforce institutional rules and regulations consistently to maintain order and discipline.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities, inmate housing, and transport vehicles to ensure security protocols are followed.
  • Assist in the transport of inmates between jails, courts, and rehabilitation facilities, ensuring their safety and compliance.
  • Respond to emergencies and disturbances promptly to maintain safety for staff and inmates.
  • Prepare detailed reports on incidents, inmate behavior, and daily activities for record-keeping and review.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and legal personnel during inmate interactions and hearings.
  • Participate in training programs to stay informed on best practices in corrections and facility management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in law enforcement, corrections, or a security-related field is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of corrections laws, regulations, and ethical practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Physical fitness and capability to handle potentially confrontational situations.
  • Valid driver’s license and, where required, completion of necessary training and certifications.
