Job Brief
The Convict Guard plays a vital role in maintaining safety and security within penal and rehabilitative institutions. Responsible for overseeing inmates and ensuring compliance with established regulations and procedures, this position requires a strong understanding of correctional practices. Ideal candidates will possess experience in law enforcement or corrections and demonstrate exceptional observational and communication skills to effectively manage inmate behavior and uphold institutional order.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and supervise inmate activities to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities and inmate living areas for contraband and compliance with institutional rules.
- Assist in the transportation of inmates between facilities, courtrooms, and other locations as required.
- Enforce regulations and procedures to maintain order and discipline among inmates.
- Respond promptly to incidents and emergencies, applying de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Document and report any incidents, including inmate behavior and disciplinary actions.
- Collaborate with correctional staff and law enforcement to enhance security protocols.
- Participate in training programs to stay updated on best practices in correctional facility management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in criminal justice or related fields preferred.
- Experience in law enforcement, corrections, or a related security field is highly desired.
- Strong observational skills with the ability to assess and respond to situations effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with inmates and staff.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures and crisis intervention techniques.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments and maintain professionalism under pressure.
- Valid state driver’s license and completion of any required training or certification programs.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform duties that may require physical restraint of inmates.
