Job Brief
As a Conservation Technician, you will play a vital role in the restoration, maintenance, and preparation of objects within museum collections. Responsibilities
- Restore and maintain museum collections, including fossils, artifacts, textiles, and documents.
- Prepare objects for storage, research, and exhibition using conservation best practices.
- Identify, document, and record objects within the collection for inventory management.
- Install and arrange objects in exhibits to enhance visitor engagement and education.
- Conduct condition assessments and develop treatment plans for damaged items.
- Collaborate with curators and other museum staff on exhibition planning and design.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety and conservation protocols.
- Stay updated on conservation techniques and industry standards through ongoing education and training.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Conservation, Museum Studies, Art History, or a related field.
- Proven experience in conservation techniques for various materials, including artifacts and textiles.
- Strong knowledge of conservation ethics and best practices.
- Familiarity with documentation and cataloging software for collections management.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
- Proficient in using hand tools and specialized equipment for conservation work.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
