Job Brief
The Combination Slasher Loader Operator is responsible for operating various logging vehicles and equipment to efficiently fell trees, skid, load, unload, and stack logs in forested areas. This role requires a high level of skill in handling machinery such as logging tractors, bulldozers, and cranes while adhering to safety protocols. The ideal candidate will have experience in logging operations, a strong understanding of forestry practices, and the ability to work in diverse weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors and wheeled vehicles equipped with accessories like bulldozer blades, grapples, and winches.
- Efficiently fell trees and clear brush using industry-standard logging techniques.
- Load, unload, and stack logs safely to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
- Utilize stand-alone logging machines, such as log chippers, for processing timber.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on logging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and best practices in logging operations.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Document daily activities and report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Combination Slasher Loader Operator or in a similar role within the logging industry.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Valid driver’s license; commercial driving certification is preferred.
- Familiarity with logging safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Ability to work in challenging outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor tasks as needed.
