Job Brief
The Collections Curator is responsible for the administration and management of collections, including artwork, collectibles, historic items, and scientific specimens within museums or other institutions. This role involves conducting research, public service activities, and instructional programs to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the collections. Responsibilities
- Oversee the acquisition, documentation, preservation, and exhibition of collections.
- Conduct in-depth research on collection items to improve knowledge and facilitate educational programs.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for collection management and public engagement.
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance visitor experiences and educational outreach.
- Prepare and present exhibitions and displays to showcase collection items effectively.
- Maintain accurate records and databases of collection items, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Act as a liaison between stakeholders, including donors, researchers, and the public.
- Participate in fundraising initiatives and grant writing to support collection-related projects.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Anthropology, or a related field.
- Proven experience in collection management, curation, or a similar role in a museum or cultural institution.
- Strong knowledge of preservation techniques and collection care standards.
- Excellent research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in collection management software and digital archiving tools.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective storytelling and presentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and engage with the public.
- Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising processes is a plus.
