Job Brief

The Collection Development Librarian plays a vital role in administering and maintaining library collections, ensuring access to a diverse range of informational materials including books, periodicals, recordings, films, and databases. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement collection development policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Provide reference and instructional services to assist users in locating and utilizing library resources effectively.
  • Manage digital and physical collections, ensuring accessibility and organization for public or institutional use.
  • Coordinate with vendors and publishers to negotiate contracts and manage budgets for collection purchases.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends in library science and technology to continuously improve collection strategies.
  • Collaborate with staff and stakeholders to promote library resources and services through outreach and programming.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Proven experience in collection development, library management, or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of cataloging standards and classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal, MARC).
  • Familiarity with digital library systems and integrated library management software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse user groups.
  • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions for collection improvement.
  • Proficiency in information retrieval and research methodologies.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Public Librarian) are a plus.
