Job Brief
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Collection Agent to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for locating and notifying customers of delinquent accounts through various communication methods, including mail, telephone, and personal visits. You will also handle payments, post amounts to customer accounts, and prepare statements for the credit department when necessary. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills and experience in account management to facilitate successful collections while maintaining positive customer relationships.
Responsibilities
- Contact customers with delinquent accounts to solicit payment via phone, email, or in-person visits.
- Receive and process payments, ensuring accurate posting to customer accounts.
- Prepare and send statements to the credit department for customers failing to respond to initial collection efforts.
- Initiate repossession proceedings or service disconnection as required.
- Maintain detailed records of collection efforts and account statuses in the database.
- Collaborate with credit and legal departments to resolve complex cases and disputes.
- Provide exceptional customer service while negotiating payment arrangements.
- Stay updated on collection laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in finance or business is a plus.
- Proven experience in collections, customer service, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on negotiation.
- Proficiency in using collection software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing debt collection practices.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
