Job Brief

As a City Planner, you will develop comprehensive land use plans and programs for towns, cities, counties, and metropolitan areas. This role requires expertise in urban planning, zoning regulations, and community development, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for residents through sustainable and strategic planning initiatives. Candidates should have a strong background in urban studies, environmental policy, or a related field, coupled with excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of land use patterns, community needs, and environmental impact.
  • Develop long-term comprehensive plans for land development, zoning, and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with government officials, stakeholders, and community members to gather input and foster public engagement.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports, maps, and proposals for planning projects.
  • Evaluate and enforce zoning regulations and policies to ensure compliance with local and state laws.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of implemented plans and make necessary adjustments.
  • Utilize GIS software and other planning tools to analyze spatial data and create visual representations of planning initiatives.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes affecting urban planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional experience in urban planning, community development, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of zoning laws, land use regulations, and urban design principles.
  • Proficiency in GIS software, AutoCAD, and other planning-related tools.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is a plus.
