Job Brief

The Church Organist will be responsible for providing musical accompaniment during worship services, special events, and community gatherings. This role requires a passion for music and the ability to play the organ and/or other musical instruments proficiently. The ideal candidate will have experience in liturgical music, a strong understanding of hymns, and the ability to collaborate with clergy and choir members to enhance the worship experience. Strong improvisational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to the church’s mission are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Play the organ and/or other musical instruments during worship services and special church events.
  • Collaborate with clergy and choir members to select appropriate hymns and musical pieces.
  • Coordinate with choir directors to provide musical support during rehearsals and performances.
  • Maintain the musical instruments and ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Prepare for services by practicing and arranging music in advance.
  • Lead congregational singing and enhance the worship atmosphere through music.
  • Participate in planning liturgical music for seasonal services and events.
  • Record music for broadcasting or video production as needed.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Church Organist or in a similar musical role.
  • Proficiency in playing the organ and knowledge of other musical instruments.
  • Strong knowledge of liturgical music, hymns, and church traditions.
  • Exceptional sight-reading and improvisational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy and choir staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with sound and video recording equipment is a plus.
