Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of individual and family medical histories to identify risks for inherited genetic conditions.
- Provide accurate information and resources to clients regarding genetic disorders, birth defects, and related health implications.
- Develop personalized counseling plans that address the emotional and psychological needs of individuals and families at risk.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure cohesive care and support for patients.
- Educate clients about genetic testing options, results interpretation, and implications for family planning.
- Support families in understanding the complexities of chromosomal disorders and available treatment options.
- Maintain detailed and confidential client records in compliance with ethical standards and legal regulations.
- Participate in research initiatives related to genetic counseling and chromosomal disorders to enhance knowledge in the field.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling or a related field.
- Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of human genetics, chromosomal disorders, and genetic testing methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Empathy and strong interpersonal skills to effectively support and guide clients.
- Experience in a clinical setting or with patient interaction preferred.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and data management.
