Job Brief

As a Choir Director, you will be responsible for conducting and leading vocal performances, overseeing rehearsal schedules, and guiding musical groups, including choirs and glee clubs. You will create and arrange original music, foster a collaborative environment, and ensure high-quality performances. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of music theory, and the ability to inspire and develop talent in singers of various skill levels.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct rehearsals and performances for choirs and vocal groups, ensuring optimal sound quality and artistic expression.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that enhance vocal skills, music theory, and performance techniques.
  • Create original compositions and arrangements that align with the group’s vision and audience preferences.
  • Coordinate with instrumentalists and other musicians to enhance overall performance quality.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including scheduling rehearsals, coordinating performances, and maintaining attendance records.
  • Evaluate and provide constructive feedback to singers to foster growth and improvement.
  • Organize auditions and select members for various vocal ensembles based on talent and suitability.
  • Engage with the community to promote performances and encourage participation in choir activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Choir Director or in a similar role, with a strong portfolio of past performances.
  • Excellent knowledge of vocal techniques, music theory, and choral repertoire.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively motivate and guide singers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with musicians and other artistic staff.
  • Familiarity with music notation software and choir management tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Passion for music education and a commitment to developing talent in diverse student populations.
