Job Brief
The Chief Jailer is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a correctional facility, ensuring the safety and security of inmates and staff. This leadership role requires extensive experience in law enforcement or corrections, with a keen focus on managing correctional officers and jailers. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a thorough understanding of correctional policies, and the ability to implement effective inmate management strategies.
Responsibilities
- Directly supervise and coordinate the activities of correctional officers and jailers.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and security measures within the facility.
- Develop and implement training programs for correctional staff.
- Monitor inmate behavior and manage disciplinary actions.
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and legal entities as necessary.
- Prepare and maintain reports related to facility operations and inmate management.
- Address and resolve conflicts among staff and inmates to maintain a safe environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in corrections or law enforcement, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of correctional policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergency situations effectively.
- Certification as a correctional officer or jail administrator is highly desirable.
- Proficient in report writing, data analysis, and facility management software.
- Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills.
