Job Brief
The Certified Detention Deputy is responsible for maintaining safety and security within penal and rehabilitative institutions. This role involves guarding inmates in accordance with established regulations and procedures, ensuring the protection of both staff and prisoners. Responsibilities
- Monitor and supervise inmate activities to ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations.
- Conduct regular security checks and inspections of inmate living areas and common spaces.
- Escort inmates during transport between facilities, courtrooms, and other locations.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents, including altercations or medical emergencies, following established protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of inmate behavior, incidents, and daily activities.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement and correctional staff to ensure a safe environment.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures and emergency response plans.
- Provide support in rehabilitation programs and activities, encouraging positive inmate behavior.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in criminal justice or a related field preferred.
- Valid certification as a Detention Deputy or equivalent law enforcement certification.
- Proven experience in corrections, law enforcement, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to de-escalate conflicts.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legal regulations, security protocols, and inmate management practices.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments and make quick decisions under pressure.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform job duties, including restraint techniques if necessary.
- Familiarity with correctional facility operations and emergency response procedures.
