Job Brief
As a Cattle Driver, you will play a vital role in the management and care of livestock, primarily focusing on cattle and other farm animals. Your primary responsibilities will include herding, feeding, and monitoring the health and well-being of animals on a farm, ranch, or open range. Ideal candidates will possess hands-on experience in animal husbandry, strong communication skills, and a passion for working outdoors. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Herd and manage cattle and other livestock in a safe and humane manner.
- Feed and water animals, ensuring proper nutrition and health.
- Monitor animal behavior and health, identifying signs of disease or injury.
- Assist in breeding and birthing processes, providing necessary support.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and insecticides as required.
- Maintain accurate records regarding animal health, breeding, and feeding schedules.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of animal housing areas.
- Load and transport animals as needed for sales, veterinary care, or relocation.
- Shear sheep and collect eggs, when applicable, for product production.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience in animal husbandry preferred.
- Knowledge of livestock management practices and animal welfare standards.
- Ability to operate farm equipment and handle livestock safely.
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent observational skills to detect changes in animal health.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Valid driver’s license and, if applicable, certification for operating specific machinery.
- Basic understanding of veterinary care and experience administering medications.
