Job Brief
The Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer is a critical role responsible for the planning, directing, and operational management of catapult and arresting gear systems on aircraft carriers. This position ensures the safety and readiness of launch and recovery operations, overseeing the maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in aviation support systems, strong leadership skills, and the ability to train personnel in carrier takeoff and landing procedures.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the operational readiness and safety of catapult and arresting gear systems, including visual landing aids and barricades.
- Plan and coordinate the design, development, and testing of aircraft launch and recovery systems.
- Prepare technical specifications for the installation and maintenance of catapult and arresting gear.
- Evaluate design proposals and recommend necessary modifications to enhance system performance.
- Determine and procure handling equipment needed for new aircraft integration.
- Develop and prepare technical data, operation manuals, and instructions for landing aids.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for personnel on carrier takeoff and landing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with industry safety standards and best practices in all operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in aircraft launch and recovery systems, preferably on aircraft carriers.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems related to catapults and arresting gear.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze complex technical data and make informed decisions.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance in military aviation operations.
- Certification in relevant technical areas is preferred.
- Experience in training and developing personnel in specialized operational procedures.
