Job Brief

The C 13 Catapult Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of catapults and arresting gear systems on aircraft carriers. This role involves overseeing aircraft launch and recovery operations, maintaining critical mechanical and hydraulic systems, and ensuring the availability of visual landing aids. Candidates should possess a strong technical background in aviation support equipment, with a focus on safety, precision, and effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain catapults and arresting gear during aircraft launch and recovery operations.
  • Install and maintain visual landing aids to assist pilots during takeoff and landing.
  • Test and troubleshoot launch and recovery equipment using electric and mechanical test instruments.
  • Activate and manage airfield arresting systems, including crash barriers and cables, during emergency situations.
  • Direct aircraft launch and recovery operations using standardized hand or light signals.
  • Maintain accurate logs of airplane launches, recoveries, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Collaborate with flight deck personnel to ensure seamless operations and safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on catapult systems and associated equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in aviation maintenance preferred.
  • Proven experience operating catapults and arresting gear in a military or aviation setting.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics for complex systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective coordination with flight deck teams.
  • Certification in aviation ground support equipment operation is a plus.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and adapt to changing operational needs.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours and shifts as required by mission demands.
