Job Brief

The Bus Monitor plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during transportation to and from school. This position involves maintaining order on the school bus, assisting students during boarding and exiting, and addressing any behavioral issues. Ideal candidates should have experience working with children, strong communication skills, and the ability to handle emergency situations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor student behavior on the bus to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus safely.
  • Communicate any behavioral issues or concerns to school staff and parents.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Prepare for and assist in emergency evacuations, ensuring student safety.
  • Provide support to students with special needs and ensure their safe transportation.
  • Collaborate with bus drivers and school officials to promote a positive bus experience.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and report them to appropriate personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in child development or education is a plus.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage emergency situations.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in student transportation.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Background check clearance is required.
  • Physical ability to assist students as needed, including lifting and supporting them if necessary.
