Job Brief

As a Boat Pilot, you will command and supervise the operations of various water vessels, including tugboats and ferryboats. This critical role requires exceptional navigational skills, a valid U.S. Coast Guard license, and expertise in maritime regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in marine operations, excellent leadership abilities, and a commitment to safety and efficiency on the water.

Responsibilities

  • Navigate and operate ships and water vessels, ensuring safe passage under varying weather conditions.
  • Supervise crew members and coordinate onboard operations for maximum efficiency and safety.
  • Conduct pre-voyage inspections and ensure compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate logs and reports of vessel activities, including navigation, maintenance, and crew performance.
  • Communicate effectively with crew, dock personnel, and other maritime stakeholders.
  • Monitor vessel systems and troubleshoot any operational issues promptly.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior crew members in navigation and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard license for the operation of designated vessels.
  • Proven experience as a Boat Pilot or in a similar role within marine operations.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime navigation, safety regulations, and vessel operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
  • Familiarity with electronic navigation systems and marine technology.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
