Job Brief
The Barn Hand plays a crucial role in the daily operations of a farm, ranch, or aquaculture facility by providing essential care for livestock and poultry. This position involves a variety of responsibilities, including feeding, watering, and monitoring the health of animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, and poultry. Candidates should possess hands-on experience with animal husbandry, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
Responsibilities
- Feed and water livestock, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration
- Monitor animal health and report any signs of illness or injury
- Assist with the birthing process and care for newborn animals
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and insecticides as needed
- Maintain accurate records of animal health and treatment
- Clean and maintain animal housing areas to ensure a safe and hygienic environment
- Herd and graze animals in designated areas
- Assist in the collection of eggs, shearing of sheep, and other farm tasks as required
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; further education in animal husbandry is a plus
- Proven experience working with livestock and/or poultry
- Knowledge of animal care practices and basic veterinary skills
- Ability to operate farm machinery and equipment safely
- Strong physical stamina and ability to lift heavy loads
- Effective communication skills and teamwork abilities
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
