Job Brief

The Barn Hand plays a crucial role in the daily operations of a farm, ranch, or aquaculture facility by providing essential care for livestock and poultry. This position involves a variety of responsibilities, including feeding, watering, and monitoring the health of animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, and poultry. Candidates should possess hands-on experience with animal husbandry, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment.

Responsibilities

  • Feed and water livestock, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration
  • Monitor animal health and report any signs of illness or injury
  • Assist with the birthing process and care for newborn animals
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and insecticides as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health and treatment
  • Clean and maintain animal housing areas to ensure a safe and hygienic environment
  • Herd and graze animals in designated areas
  • Assist in the collection of eggs, shearing of sheep, and other farm tasks as required

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; further education in animal husbandry is a plus
  • Proven experience working with livestock and/or poultry
  • Knowledge of animal care practices and basic veterinary skills
  • Ability to operate farm machinery and equipment safely
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to lift heavy loads
