Job Brief
As an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate, you will play a critical role in the operation and maintenance of catapults, arresting gear, and associated mechanical and hydraulic systems essential for aircraft carrier takeoff and landing operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with launch and recovery equipment, strong communication skills for directing aircraft operations, and a thorough understanding of emergency procedures. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain catapults and arresting gear systems used in aircraft launch and recovery.
- Install and upkeep visual landing aids to enhance flight operations.
- Test and maintain launch and recovery equipment using electric and mechanical test tools.
- Activate airfield arresting systems, including crash barriers and cables, during emergency situations.
- Direct aircraft launch and recovery operations utilizing hand signals and light signals.
- Maintain accurate logs of airplane launches, recoveries, and equipment maintenance records.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure operational readiness and safety standards are met.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent; relevant military training or experience preferred.
- Proven experience in operating mechanical and hydraulic systems in aviation.
- Familiarity with aircraft launch and recovery procedures and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Effective communication skills for directing aircraft operations.
- Valid certifications related to flight deck operations and safety protocols.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
