Job Brief
As an Art Handler, you will play a crucial role in the preservation, restoration, and preparation of valuable objects within museum collections for storage, research, and exhibitions. This position requires a keen eye for detail and expertise in handling various specimens, including fossils, skeletal parts, textiles, and artworks. You will be responsible for properly identifying, recording, and arranging artifacts, ensuring their safe installation and display in exhibits. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in conservation techniques and a passion for art and history.
Responsibilities
- Restore and maintain art and artifacts while adhering to conservation best practices.
- Prepare objects for storage, research, and exhibition, ensuring their integrity and safety.
- Identify, catalog, and accurately record objects in museum collections.
- Install and arrange artworks and artifacts for exhibitions, focusing on aesthetic and educational impact.
- Collaborate with curators and conservators to assess the condition of items and plan necessary treatments.
- Implement preservation measures to protect collections from environmental damage.
- Assist in the transportation and handling of delicate objects, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Conduct research on materials and techniques relevant to the conservation of various artifacts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Proven experience in art handling, conservation, or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of conservation techniques and materials used in the preservation of artifacts.
- Familiarity with cataloging software and inventory management systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to handle and move objects safely.
- Certification in art conservation or related professional development is a plus.
