Job Brief
As an Art Conservator, you will be responsible for the restoration, maintenance, and preparation of objects within museum collections for storage, research, or exhibition. Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of artworks and artifacts to determine conservation needs.
- Implement restoration techniques to repair and preserve items using appropriate materials.
- Document conservation processes and maintain detailed records of interventions.
- Prepare objects for exhibition, ensuring proper installation and arrangement.
- Collaborate with museum staff to develop exhibition layouts and educational materials.
- Research historical context and provenance of items to inform conservation approaches.
- Advise on environmental conditions for storage and display to prevent damage.
- Stay updated on conservation technology and best practices to enhance skills and methodologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Conservation, Art History, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in art conservation or a related role, preferably in a museum setting.
- Strong understanding of conservation ethics and practices.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques and tools used in art conservation.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and reporting.
- Familiarity with digital preservation techniques is a plus.
