Job Brief
As an Ambulance Dispatcher, you will play a crucial role in emergency response management by efficiently operating communication systems, including telephones and radios, to receive and relay requests for emergency assistance. You will be responsible for assessing incoming information related to crimes, medical emergencies, fires, and other public safety incidents, ensuring prompt coordination with law enforcement and emergency personnel. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, experience in emergency services, and a commitment to public safety.
Responsibilities
- Operate communication systems to receive, prioritize, and dispatch emergency calls to appropriate response units.
- Assess and gather critical information from callers regarding incidents, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Provide real-time instructions and support to callers based on established emergency protocols.
- Coordinate information sharing with law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services.
- Access and utilize sensitive databases for incident reporting and resource allocation.
- Maintain detailed records of all communications and actions taken during emergency situations.
- Monitor communication channels and respond to any additional requests or updates from field personnel.
- Participate in training and drills to stay current on emergency procedures and technology.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in emergency management or dispatching preferred.
- Proven experience in emergency dispatching or a related field is highly desirable.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Familiarity with emergency services protocols and procedures.
- Proficient in operating communication equipment and software.
- Ability to multitask and make quick decisions in high-stress situations.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is a plus.
- Knowledge of local geography and public safety resources is advantageous.
