Job Brief
As a 911 Dispatcher, you will serve as a critical communication link between the public and emergency response teams. This role requires effective operation of telephone, radio, and other communication systems to receive requests for emergency assistance at 9-1-1 public safety answering points. You will gather and relay vital information regarding incidents such as crimes, medical emergencies, fires, and disturbances while coordinating with law enforcement and emergency personnel. The ideal candidate possesses strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and relevant certifications in emergency response procedures.
Responsibilities
- Operate communication systems to receive and assess emergency calls.
- Gather detailed information from callers regarding emergencies and incidents.
- Dispatch appropriate emergency services personnel, including police, fire, and medical teams.
- Provide callers with clear instructions based on established emergency procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of calls and responses using computer-aided dispatch systems.
- Monitor radio communications and provide support to field personnel as needed.
- Access sensitive databases to gather information relevant to ongoing incidents.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency response agencies to ensure efficient operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in emergency dispatch preferred.
- Proven experience in emergency communications or public safety roles.
- Certification in emergency medical dispatch (EMD) and/or CPR preferred.
- Strong multitasking abilities and the capacity to work in high-stress environments.
- Proficient in using computer systems, software, and radio communication devices.
- Excellent verbal communication skills and active listening capabilities.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick, informed decisions during emergencies.
- Familiarity with public safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
