I think the main thing was that the phleb did not ask me to confirm my address and initial it, before doing the draw. This is always done at the location I frequent. And every other location that I can remember.
As I got up, I asked if I needed to initial the paper. She said only if I wanted to. Is being asked to initial NOT the usual? Does the location I normally go to (Wyoming Springs) do it as an UNUSUAL matter of course?
Physically, this location was newer and shinier…and better decorated! I said as much…NO reaction from phleb. Okay. 🤷🏻♀️
Then the phlebotomist could not get a vein on one arm. This in itself is not a huge deal, because this happens with me sometimes; though nobody loves that stick twice (I’ve had times at CPL where I didn’t feel a thing. But different phlebotomists have different levels of experience, etc.)…I guess my veins are small or something.
Still, things are usually OK when I have had a lot of liquid, especially water, of course. So I said a bit cheerily/sheepishly that I had had plenty of liquid (water). (But I had also placed a cup of coffee next to me!)
She said, in sort of an accusatory tone, was it water? I said sheepishly that about half of it was. Then she asked, was it yesterday? (that I’d had water; lots of water).
I was said that yes, I had had plenty of liquid yesterday, too, and much more water than coffee, by a longshot.
Meanwhile, she is successfully tapping a vein on the other arm! It’s not a HUGE deal and I’m sure I’m being touchy, but she had nary a smile or ANY sense of joviality. I’ve never encountered that. I mean, it’s not like patients are thrilled to be there, either! She was sort of…”flatline.”
I’m sure it’s not a fun job, not the most fun in the world, and you never know what someone is going through that day. I know that.
But come on, let’s not continue the conversation when you’re already filling the vile, with success!
Having said ALL THAT…if I needed work done in the same situation, I’d likely give it one more shot. 🩸
