Job Brief

As an Emergency Planner, you will be responsible for developing and directing disaster response and crisis management activities. This role involves providing disaster preparedness training and preparing comprehensive emergency plans and procedures for various scenarios, including natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods, wartime situations, technological emergencies like nuclear power plant incidents, hazardous materials spills, and hostage situations. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, experience in emergency management, and a commitment to public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for various disaster scenarios.
  • Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential threats.
  • Coordinate training sessions and drills for staff and community stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain and update emergency plans and procedures regularly based on best practices and lessons learned.
  • Prepare and distribute educational materials related to disaster preparedness and response.
  • Evaluate and improve existing emergency management programs and initiatives.
  • Act as a point of contact during emergencies, providing guidance and support to response teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public safety, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in emergency planning, disaster recovery, or crisis management.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local emergency management regulations and procedures.
  • Certification in emergency management (e.g., CEM, AEM) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in emergency management software and tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.
