Job Brief
As a Subway Train Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of passengers on subway or elevated suburban trains. This role requires a strong understanding of train operations, adherence to safety protocols, and excellent communication skills. You will operate electric-powered streetcars, manage fare collection, and ensure a high standard of service for all passengers. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in transit operations and demonstrate the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate subway and elevated trains, ensuring safety and punctuality.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of train equipment and systems.
- Monitor train speed and performance, making necessary adjustments to maintain operational efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and other train operators regarding service updates and emergencies.
- Manage fare collection and provide assistance to passengers as needed.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and operational procedures to ensure passenger safety.
- Respond to emergencies or incidents promptly and follow appropriate reporting protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of train operations and passenger counts.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in transit operations preferred.
- Valid operator’s license and any necessary certifications for train operation.
- Proven experience in a transportation or public transit environment.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and operational procedures.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Familiarity with electronic fare collection systems is a plus.
