Job Brief

The Wardrobe Custodian is responsible for selecting, fitting, and maintaining costumes for cast members, ensuring that all attire is performance-ready. This role requires expertise in costume design and maintenance, as well as the ability to assist entertainers with multiple costume changes during performances. Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for the performing arts.

Responsibilities

  • Select and fit costumes to suit individual cast members’ needs and character requirements.
  • Manage the upkeep and maintenance of costumes, including cleaning, repairing, and altering as necessary.
  • Assist performers with quick costume changes during live performances to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Collaborate with the production team to understand costume needs for various scenes and performances.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of costumes and accessories, tracking usage and condition.
  • Stay updated on costume trends and techniques to incorporate into the wardrobe department.
  • Provide support during rehearsals and performances to ensure all wardrobe elements function effectively.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in wardrobe management, costume design, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrics, sewing techniques, and costume maintenance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Familiarity with wardrobe equipment and tools, including sewing machines and maintenance supplies.
  • Certification in costume design or a related discipline is a plus.
