Job Brief
The Tugboat Operator is responsible for commanding and supervising the operations of tugboats and other water vessels. This role requires an experienced mariner with a valid U.S. Coast Guard license. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong navigational skills, an understanding of maritime regulations, and the ability to operate a tugboat effectively in various weather conditions. Key responsibilities include assisting in the docking and undocking of vessels, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and maintaining vessel equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operate tugboats to assist in the navigation and docking of larger vessels in harbors and waterways.
- Supervise crew members during vessel operations, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.
- Conduct pre-departure inspections of tugboat equipment and systems to ensure operational readiness.
- Communicate effectively with port authorities and other vessels to coordinate safe passage and docking procedures.
- Monitor weather conditions and adjust operations as necessary to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate logs and reports of vessel operations and incidents.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of tugboat machinery and equipment.
- Adhere to maritime regulations and environmental policies to promote safe and sustainable operations.
Requirements
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard license for operating tugboats or similar vessels.
- Proven experience as a Tugboat Operator or in a similar maritime role.
- Strong knowledge of navigation systems, maritime laws, and safety protocols.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage crew and coordinate with officials.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Familiarity with vessel maintenance practices and troubleshooting methods.
- Capability to operate tugboats with precision and attention to detail.
- Basic first aid and emergency response training is preferred.
