Job Brief

As a Trolley Car Overhauler, you will be responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, and overhauling railroad rolling stock, including mass transit rail cars and mine cars. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, exceptional troubleshooting skills, and hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and repair. Ideal candidates will possess a background in heavy machinery or automotive repair with a focus on rail systems, ensuring safety and efficiency in transit operations.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical issues in trolley cars and related rolling stock to determine necessary repairs.
  • Perform adjustments and repairs on mechanical components, including brakes, wheels, and electrical systems.
  • Overhaul and refurbish trolley cars, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to implement design improvements and upgrades to existing rail systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on trolley cars to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities in compliance with industry standards.
  • Utilize specialized tools and equipment for the maintenance and repair of mass transit rail cars.
  • Train and mentor junior mechanics on best practices for repair and maintenance of trolley and rail systems.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in mechanical repair, specifically with railroad rolling stock or mass transit vehicles.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in trolley cars.
  • Technical certification in automotive or mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics related to rail systems.
  • Proficient with hand tools and diagnostic equipment used in vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in diagnosing mechanical issues.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with team members and reporting on maintenance activities.
