Job Brief

The Timpanist is a skilled percussionist responsible for performing on timpani and other percussion instruments in various musical settings, including orchestras, chamber ensembles, and solo performances. This role requires a strong understanding of musical theory, exceptional timing, and the ability to collaborate with other musicians. The ideal candidate will possess experience in live performances, sound recording, and an ability to interpret complex musical scores.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on timpani and other percussion instruments in orchestral and ensemble settings.
  • Collaborate with conductors and other musicians to ensure cohesive musical performances.
  • Practice and refine musical pieces to achieve high levels of performance quality.
  • Participate in rehearsals to develop ensemble dynamics and timing.
  • Maintain and care for percussion instruments to ensure optimal sound quality.
  • Record music for broadcasting or sound/video projects as required.
  • Adapt performances to suit various venues and audience types.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Timpanist or in a similar percussionist role.
  • Strong proficiency in playing timpani and other percussion instruments.
  • In-depth knowledge of musical theory and the ability to read complex musical scores.
  • Experience in live performance and studio recording environments.
  • Excellent timing, rhythm, and ear for music.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various performance styles and settings.
