Job Brief
The Timber Harvester Operator plays a crucial role in the forestry industry by driving logging tractors or wheeled vehicles equipped with various accessories to effectively fell trees, skid, load, unload, or stack logs, as well as pull stumps and clear brush. Responsibilities
- Operate logging tractors and wheeled vehicles with attachments such as bulldozer blades, frontal shears, or crane booms to efficiently fell trees.
- Skid, load, unload, and stack logs to prepare them for transportation or processing.
- Utilize stand-alone logging machines, including log chippers, to process timber and enhance productivity.
- Perform routine maintenance checks and troubleshoot machinery issues to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and best practices to minimize impact on surrounding ecosystems.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate logging operations and maximize efficiency.
- Document daily activities and report on the status of logging operations to management.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment, following all safety protocols and guidelines.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training or certifications preferred.
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery, specifically logging equipment.
- Strong knowledge of safety practices and regulations in the forestry and logging industry.
- Ability to perform physical tasks and work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Valid driver’s license and, if applicable, commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic outdoor setting.
