Job Brief
The Surgical Scrub Technologist plays a crucial role in the operating room, providing essential support to surgeons and surgical teams. This position requires hands-on experience in a surgical environment, where the technologist assists in preparing the operating room, preparing and transporting patients, and ensuring all surgical instruments and supplies are sterile and ready for use. Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are key to success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the setup and preparation of the operating room, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are available and sterile.
- Prepare and transport patients to the operating room, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Adjust lighting, equipment, and surgical instruments as required by the surgical team.
- Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures, maintaining a smooth workflow.
- Hold retractors and cut sutures as directed, ensuring precision and support to the surgical team.
- Conduct accurate counts of sponges, needles, instruments, and other supplies to prevent retained surgical items.
- Maintain a clean and organized surgical environment, adhering to safety and infection control protocols.
- Assist in post-operative procedures, including cleaning and restocking the operating room for future surgeries.
Requirements
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a surgical technology program is highly desirable.
- Prior experience as a Surgical Scrub Technologist or in a similar surgical support role.
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile techniques, and operating room protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with surgical teams.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification may be required.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
