Job Brief
We are seeking a skilled Steam Shovel Operating Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will operate various types of power construction equipment, including steam shovels, to excavate, move, and grade earth, erect structures, and pour concrete or hard surface pavements. The ideal candidate will possess experience in heavy machinery operation, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety protocols on construction sites.
Responsibilities
- Operate steam shovels and other construction equipment to perform excavation, grading, and earthmoving tasks.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery while adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.
- Conduct regular maintenance and minor repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with construction teams to understand project specifications and requirements.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any malfunctions or issues to supervisors.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, equipment usage, and maintenance performed.
- Assist in the setup and teardown of construction sites as required.
- Adhere to environmental and safety guidelines to minimize risks on site.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating steam shovels and other heavy construction equipment.
- Valid operator’s license and relevant certifications for heavy machinery operation.
- Strong understanding of construction site safety practices and regulations.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on machinery.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with other construction personnel.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in construction technology is a plus.
