Job Brief
The Special Education Paraeducator plays a vital role in supporting students with learning, emotional, or physical disabilities in preschool, elementary, middle, or secondary school settings. Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Support classroom management by promoting positive behavior and social skills among students.
- Facilitate academic learning by providing one-on-one or small group instruction under the guidance of the teacher.
- Help students develop daily living skills, self-advocacy, and independence.
- Collaborate with teachers and other educational staff to monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies.
- Prepare instructional materials and assist with classroom organization.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents regarding student needs and progress.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in special education preferred.
- Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities in educational settings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with students and staff.
- Ability to implement IEPs and modify instructional materials as needed.
- Knowledge of special education laws and practices.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting diverse learners.
- Certification as a paraeducator or willingness to obtain certification as required.
