Job Brief
The Special Education Bus Driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe transportation of students with special needs to and from school. Responsibilities
- Drive a school bus to transport students with special needs, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
- Assist students in boarding and exiting the bus safely, ensuring their comfort and security.
- Maintain a clean and organized bus interior, contributing to a positive transportation experience.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and caregivers regarding students’ special needs and any incidents that may arise.
- Implement and follow individualized transportation plans as required by each student’s specific needs.
- Report any issues or concerns regarding student behavior, safety, or bus maintenance to appropriate authorities.
- Attend training sessions and safety meetings to stay current on best practices and legal requirements related to transporting students with special needs.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a school bus endorsement.
- Experience driving a school bus or similar vehicle, preferably with special education students.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures for transporting students with disabilities.
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and effectively manage challenging situations.
- Excellent communication skills to interact positively with students, parents, and school staff.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screening as required by law.
- Physical capability to assist students with mobility challenges during boarding and exiting.
