Job Brief
As a Shovel Operator, you will be responsible for operating various types of shovels and heavy machinery to move materials at construction sites, mines, or other industrial locations. This role requires a keen understanding of equipment operation, safety protocols, and material handling techniques. Responsibilities
- Operate shovels and other heavy machinery to excavate, load, and transport materials such as dirt, gravel, and debris.
- Inspect equipment before and after use to ensure proper functionality and adherence to safety standards.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and coworkers.
- Collaborate with site supervisors and other operators to coordinate material movement and workflow.
- Maintain accurate records of materials moved and equipment usage.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machinery to minimize downtime.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and best practices in material handling and disposal.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in heavy machinery operation is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Shovel Operator or in a similar role within the construction or mining industry.
- Valid operator’s license or certification for heavy machinery operation.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols and practices related to heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and site plans.
- Physical stamina and strength to handle demanding tasks and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
