Job Brief
We are seeking a skilled Sheep Shearer to join our agricultural team. The ideal candidate will have experience in handling livestock and performing shearing tasks efficiently while ensuring the health and welfare of the sheep. Responsibilities
- Perform shearing of sheep to collect wool, ensuring minimal stress to the animals.
- Monitor and maintain the health of sheep, identifying signs of illness or injury.
- Assist in the feeding, watering, and general care of livestock.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, shearing dates, and wool production.
- Clean and maintain animal housing areas to promote hygiene and animal welfare.
- Administer medications and vaccinations as required to ensure animal health.
- Assist in the birthing process and care for newborn animals.
- Collaborate with other farm staff to enhance overall farm operations.
Requirements
- Proven experience in sheep shearing and animal husbandry.
- Knowledge of animal health practices and welfare standards.
- Ability to operate and maintain shearing equipment safely.
- Physical stamina to work long hours in varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Basic record-keeping skills for tracking animal health and shearing schedules.
- Certification in animal handling or shearing techniques is a plus.
