Job Brief

The Set Decorator plays a vital role in the creative process of film, video, television, and theater productions by designing visually captivating sets and exhibits. Responsibilities

  • Design and create detailed set decorations that enhance the visual storytelling of film, video, television, and theater productions.
  • Study scripts and collaborate with directors, producers, and other creative team members to ensure alignment with the overall vision.
  • Conduct thorough research on historical and architectural styles to inform the design process.
  • Select, source, and procure set dressing materials, props, and furnishings to achieve the desired aesthetic.
  • Oversee the installation and arrangement of set decorations on location or in studio settings, ensuring adherence to safety and design standards.
  • Maintain and manage inventory of set dressing supplies and props, ensuring timely availability for productions.
  • Adapt set designs based on budget constraints and production timelines while maintaining artistic integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Set Design, Interior Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience as a Set Decorator or in a similar role within the entertainment industry.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating creativity and proficiency in set design and decoration.
  • Familiarity with design software such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with diverse creative teams.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of current trends in set design and the ability to incorporate innovative ideas.
