Job Brief
The Scrap Metal Collector plays a critical role in the recycling industry by collecting and transporting refuse and recyclable materials, primarily scrap metal. This position requires individuals who are detail-oriented and have a strong commitment to safety and environmental sustainability. Successful candidates will possess excellent physical stamina and driving skills, as well as the ability to operate various collection equipment. Previous experience in waste management or recycling is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Collect scrap metal and recyclable materials from designated containers and locations.
- Dump collected materials into the truck or designated processing areas efficiently.
- Drive collection trucks safely and adhere to all traffic regulations and safety protocols.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on collection vehicles to ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain accurate records of materials collected and report any discrepancies.
- Interact with clients and the public in a professional manner, addressing any inquiries or concerns.
- Follow company policies and procedures related to waste disposal and recycling practices.
- Participate in training programs to stay updated on industry standards and safety practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in waste management is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred.
- Experience in scrap metal collection, waste management, or a related field.
- Knowledge of recycling processes and safety procedures.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with operating collection trucks and related equipment.
