Job Brief
As a River Boat Captain, you will command and supervise the operations of various water vessels, including tugboats and ferryboats, ensuring safe navigation and adherence to maritime regulations. This role requires a valid U.S. Coast Guard-issued license and a strong understanding of waterway navigation, vessel operations, and crew management. Responsibilities
- Navigate and operate river boats and other water vessels in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Supervise crew members, ensuring effective communication and teamwork during operations.
- Perform regular inspections and maintenance of vessels to ensure safety and functionality.
- Develop and implement operational plans, including route planning and scheduling.
- Monitor weather conditions and environmental factors to ensure safe navigation.
- Conduct safety drills and training sessions for crew members to enhance preparedness.
- Maintain accurate logs and reports of vessel operations, incidents, and maintenance activities.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents promptly, ensuring the safety of passengers and crew.
Requirements
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license and certifications as required by law.
- Proven experience in operating river boats or similar marine vessels.
- Strong knowledge of navigation, maritime safety regulations, and emergency procedures.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to manage crew effectively.
- Ability to assess and respond to changing conditions on the water.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
