Job Brief
The Residential Life Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating activities within residential facilities, such as secondary school and college dormitories or group homes. The role involves managing daily operations, ensuring a safe and supportive living environment, and fostering community engagement among residents. The ideal candidate will have experience in residential life management, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to student development.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement residential life programs that enhance student engagement and community building.
- Manage daily operations of resident facilities, including maintenance requests and supply inventory.
- Supervise and train resident advisors and staff, providing guidance and support for their roles.
- Develop and enforce policies regarding resident conduct, safety, and conflict resolution.
- Assist residents with problem-solving and provide referrals to appropriate counseling and support resources.
- Maintain accurate household records and documentation related to occupancy and facility management.
- Organize events and activities to promote resident involvement and foster a sense of belonging.
- Collaborate with campus departments and external organizations to enhance residential life experiences.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Social Work, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience in residential life administration or related student services roles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and support diverse populations.
- Knowledge of crisis management, conflict resolution, and student development theories.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Proficiency in managing budgets and resources effectively.
- Familiarity with relevant software applications for record-keeping and facility management.
- Certification in CPR, First Aid, and other relevant training is a plus.
