Job Brief
The Research Librarian is responsible for administering and maintaining libraries or collections of information while ensuring public or private access through reference or borrowing services. This role requires a strong knowledge of informational resources, including books, periodicals, recordings, films, and databases. Ideal candidates will possess excellent research skills and experience in various settings, such as educational institutions, museums, or corporate environments, focusing on acquiring, cataloging, and circulating library materials, as well as providing user services and instructional support.
Responsibilities
- Administer library operations, including collection development, cataloging, and circulation of materials.
- Assist patrons in locating, organizing, and accessing information across various formats.
- Provide instruction and training on library resources, databases, and media equipment.
- Conduct research and compile resources to support academic and organizational needs.
- Evaluate and recommend new acquisitions to enhance library collections.
- Develop and implement library programs and outreach initiatives to engage users.
- Maintain accurate records and statistics related to library usage and services.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community members to promote library resources.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Proven experience in library services, research methodologies, and information management.
- Strong proficiency in using library management systems and digital databases.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for user engagement and instruction.
- Familiarity with cataloging standards and practices, such as Dewey Decimal and MARC.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
