Job Brief
The Radiology Practitioner Assistant (RPA) is a highly skilled healthcare professional who performs essential radiological services under the supervision of a licensed physician. The RPA is responsible for conducting comprehensive patient assessments, delivering treatment plans, counseling patients on diagnostic procedures, and, in certain situations, prescribing medication. This role requires a graduate from an accredited educational program for physician assistants and emphasizes strong clinical skills, patient communication, and a solid understanding of radiology practices.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough physical examinations and assess patient health history.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic radiologic procedures while adhering to safety protocols.
- Provide patient education regarding imaging procedures and potential outcomes.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications as permitted by regulations and within the scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives within the radiology department.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current certification and licensure as a Physician Assistant.
- Knowledge of radiology procedures and the ability to operate imaging equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction.
- Ability to analyze and interpret medical data and imaging results.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Experience in a clinical or hospital setting, particularly in radiology, is highly desirable.
