Job Brief

As a Public Safety Telecommunicator, you will play a vital role in emergency response operations by efficiently managing and responding to incoming calls at 9-1-1 public safety answering points. You will communicate critical information regarding emergencies such as crimes, medical incidents, and natural disasters to law enforcement and emergency response personnel. The ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, a commitment to public service, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Operate communication systems, including telephone and radio, to receive emergency calls.
  • Gather and assess information from callers regarding public safety incidents.
  • Coordinate responses among law enforcement, fire services, and emergency medical teams.
  • Access and manage sensitive databases to relay critical information.
  • Provide instructions to callers based on knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Document all communications accurately and maintain detailed records of incidents.
  • Monitor and manage multiple communication channels simultaneously.
  • Remain calm and composed while managing stressful and emergency situations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree preferred.
  • Certification in emergency dispatch or telecommunication preferred.
  • Proficient in using communication technology and software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
  • Familiarity with public safety protocols and emergency response systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
