Job Brief

As a Protective Relay Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and safety of electrical systems within generating stations, substations, and in-service relays. Your primary responsibilities will include inspecting, testing, repairing, and maintaining protective relay systems to prevent electrical failures and ensure optimal performance. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and have hands-on experience with relay technology, troubleshooting, and system analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test protective relay systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and operational reliability.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment, including relays, circuit breakers, and control systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in protective relay systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Document all maintenance activities, tests, and repairs in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and improve relay settings and protection schemes.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to protective relay systems.
  • Provide technical support and training to junior technicians and other team members as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Protective Relay Technician or in a similar role within the electrical utility industry.
  • Strong knowledge of protective relay systems, electrical circuits, and power distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with testing equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and relay test sets.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., NETA, NERC) are a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
