Job Brief
The Production Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments from metal. This role requires expertise in fabricating, modifying, and repairing mechanical instruments, as well as maintaining and modifying machine tools. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, and machining procedures, with proficiency in both manual and CNC machining techniques.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to produce precision metal parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining operations.
- Fabricate and modify parts for mechanical instruments and industrial machines.
- Perform quality control checks on machined components to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Utilize precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to ensure accurate dimensions.
- Maintain and troubleshoot machinery, ensuring optimal performance and safety standards.
- Document machining processes and maintain accurate records of production activities.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve manufacturing processes and product quality.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Production Machinist or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in operating CNC machines and familiarity with CNC programming.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and machining techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of materials properties and machining processes.
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Technical diploma or certification in machining or a related field preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
